Medication Disposal

IMG_9284.jpeg
  • Forty Acres Pharmacy is now a Medication Take-Back Drop site. Bring back your unused or unwanted medications to be disposed of properly.
  • Why?
  • Prevent misuse, abuse and poisonings and protect our environment.
  • What?
  • The medSAFE unused medication disposal system allows a person to drop off unused, expired, or unwanted medications.
  • How?
  • The person to whom the medications were prescribed (the “end user”) is the only person authorized to dispose of the medications. The “end user” should place the medications directly in the Blue medSAFE disposal container. It is illegal for pharmacy staff to take the medications from you.
  • Due to legal restrictions, we cannot accept loads from pharmacies, clinics, nursing homes, church groups, or healthcare facilities. This is for individual use only.
  • The medSAFE box is secured to the ground and double locked. Once the medications are inside, it is virtually impossible to open the box.
  • To be destroyed, the medications are incinerated using the appropriate means as specified by the DEA and FDA.
  • Development of this program is supported with a grant from the UT Green Fee.
  • Persons may not dispose of illicit drugs (e.g., schedule I controlled substances such as marijuana, heroin, LSD) through the use of this drop box.
  • Call 512-471-1824 for questions or more information.
